Shangilia Mtoto wa Africa


This is a Children's Home in the Kangemi slum, Nairobi for children from the streets aged from 1-15 years. It was founded and run by Kenyan actress, Anne Wanjugu, until her death in April 2002.

Japheth Njenga is now the very pro-active Project Director and the project is continuing to develop with changes and improvements taking place. The staff includes teachers, a full time nurse and doctors who attend on a monthly basis. The School onsite is registered, but the children are integrated into local schools as soon as they can be. They continue with theatre activities and have added many other activities to their programme competing successfully at national level.

At holiday times the children are being re-united with members of their extended families where support is given in an attempt to rehabilitate them.
