Bill and Joy Murphy – Head of Projects & Comms

billandjoymurphyBill was born and brought up in Liverpool where he spent 10 years working with the Cunard Steam Ship Company and 2 years in the RAF before entering the Methodist Ministry in 1958 and retiring in 1996.

Joy was born in Hessle, Yorkshire and brought up in Blackpool. She trained as a Paediatric and General Nurse in Manchester, spent a year in Sydney, Australia, before returning to the UK to marry Bill in 1963. Joy retired from the NHS in 1999.

We have four children, 9 grandchildren and one step-great grandson all of whom we are very proud of and take great delight in.

During our shared ministry we travelled in Basingstoke, South Lambeth, Dorking, Northwood and Amersham, before retiring to Aylesbury. In 1990 we took part in a ministerial exchange for 7 months with a Kenyan Methodist Minister to Nairobi, Kenya, and with our daughter, Corinne had many life-changing experiences.

When Corinne founded the Karibuni Trust in 1995 we both became Trustees and Bill the chairman until 2009. As Trustees we have continued to travel around the country raising awareness about the needs of vulnerable, poor children and money to support the projects caring for them in Kenya.

With others we visit Kenya each year to meet and share with the people involved there, plan future support and funding – and are inspired and encouraged by them to keep on telling the story and raising funds.
