Here are some ideas to help start you thinking what you could do:

Fundraise at school

Whatever the age group, there are many ways nurseries, schools and colleges can raise money.
Organise an event, such as an ‘X Factor’ style contest or a variety night.
Have one of our collection boxes in the classroom or staff room. You will be amazed at how much you can collect!
If your school has a Charity of the Year, why not see if you can nominate us next year.

Flute quartet “QUATTRO” performed a concert and raised £519 for Karibuni.

Fundraise at your club

If you are a member of a local organisation, like a Rotary club, Scout group or golf club, then we would love for you to get together with your members and raise money for Karibuni
Organise a fundraising event – how about a fundraising dinner or a quiz night?
Get your members sponsored to do something – maybe a sponsored slim or bicycle ride.
Take a box of our cards to sell amongst the group.

Fundraise at work

Fundraising at work can be a great way to get to know your colleagues better, improve inter-department communications and even introduce some healthy competition.

Here are just a few ideas of ways you can support us at work:
Have a ‘fine box’ for swearing, forgetting to re-load the photocopier or not passing on a message.
Organise a dress-down day or ″spot the baby’competition.
Sponsor the boss to make the tea all day.
Organise a team to take part in a fundraising event.
Have a collection box on your till or in your staff room.
Sell our Karibuni Christmas cards at work.

Many employers offer ‘matched funding’, instantly doubling any funds you raise, so don’t forget to check with your company before starting any fundraising efforts.

Your company may also have a Charity of the Year scheme. Perhaps you could consider nominating Karibuni for next year’s adoption.

Fundraise at your pub

Collection boxes:

One of the most simple and effective ways of raising continuous funds for us is to put out collection boxes on your bar areas.
The classic pub quiz:
This is a popular and proven way to raise money for charity. Simply devise a quiz (or get one off the internet), advertise and enjoy an evening of trivia.

Darts or pool competition:
Make it a prize competition and pull in the customers for a small donation to the hospice.
Karaoke or talent night:
Ask for donations to enter and get the crowd to show their approval in pounds too.

Football tournament:
Arrange a friendly with a rival pub to see who wins on the pitch and on the fundraising card.

Getting started

things to consider when organising a fundraising event:

Have fun
Make sure your event is fun and appeals to the people you want to raise money from.

Time
Planning well in advance will give you the chance to promote your event and gain more interest. Check to make sure that there are no other similar events happening in your area at the same time.

Targets

Set a target for the amount of money you want to raise. Think about any costs you may have when organising the event and stick to your budget.

Volunteers

Ask friends, family and local businesses to donate their skills, help you organise your event, or donate items and prizes.

Publicity

Invite as many people as you can and ask them to bring their friends and family. You could also put posters up in your local area or contact your local paper.

Risks

Take the time to think about any possible risks and work out solutions to them. The chances are you won’t have to use them, but a little bit of forward planning can prevent such situations occurring.

Insurance and licences
Some activities require licenses or permission from the land owner such as carol singing or raffles, make sure you have met the appropriate requirements and if you event is potentially hazardous you must have the correct insurance in place. For more information do contact Karibuni.

Sponsorship

When collecting sponsorship, put the form with the highest donation on top or ask your generous friends to donate first. Hopefully others will be inspired to follow their example. Download Karibuni sponsorship forms here or set up online at Justgiving

Gift aid

Ask your sponsors to gift aid their donations. You’ll get the most out of your sponsorship and so will we as we receive an extra 25% with no extra cost to anyone.

How about joining a team of volunteers to visit Kenya and make a difference at one or more of Karibuni’s partner-projects?

Most years it’s possible to join a group visiting Kenya. There’s opportunity to see some of our projects for yourself and to help in the classrooms or assist people on the spot with physical work such as repairs to classrooms or even new construction. No particular skills are necessary – other than a willingness to roll up your sleeves!working trip image

All members pay their own expenses, including air fares. Accommodation is provided either in hostels or with local families. Such trips can be very rewarding, providing a unique insight into life in Kenya and the projects we support. Some trips conclude with a brief safari to one of Kenya’s famous game parks. For more information please call or e-mail us.
