At this time of year it’s normal to look back at the past and to look forward to the future. For Karibuni Children that is especially relevant as we reach our twentieth birthday.
In this newsletter you will find reminders of what we’ve achieved together; literally transforming the lives of numerous children. As Karibuni has grown so have the children we support and we are now seeing more young people completing their education, equipped to earn a living and to support their families. It’s an inspirational track record.
We are restless to do more by giving more children the chance to break free from poverty, therefore, after careful thought, we’ve set ourselves the target of increasing our income from its present level of about £200,000 per year to £300,000 in five years.
It is a very challenging target and we shall need to stretch ourselves to achieve it; but the need is there and many of the projects we partner have the capacity to take on more children. Their only constraint is finance.
How will we raise such a large sum, every year?
Our fund raising plans include a diverse range of events including the launch in mid-2015 of a scheme to enable donors to sponsor individual young people as they enter College and University.
We also need to recruit many more supporters, and that’s where we need your help.
Many of you have accompanied us on our journey for several years, others have come to know Karibuni much more recently. What we all have in common is a recognition of what makes Karibuni Children so very special: its commitment to feeding and educating; its simple ethos involving just one criterion: “the poorest of the poor”; its hands-on management style; its focus on minimising costs in the UK to maximise the amount we send to Kenya. You know what we’ve achieved and the way we’ve done it.
It’s a story of which we are all justifiably proud. So, as we enter our twentieth year, we are asking you to join us in telling others why they should be joining us. If each of us could recruit just one more supporter, our finances would be transformed.
Karibuni Trustees believe that with your help we can make the next twenty years as exciting as the first twenty. In the process we can give many more needy children a life changing opportunity. That’s an aspiration worthy of any New Year’s resolution.
